Review of Pacific Rim (2013) by Tristan M — 12 Jul 2015
This is one of those movies that was going to happen sooner or later, and would have someone like Michael Bay at its helm. Nothing could have saved this movie from failure, actors, action, CGI or money.
They all seem fall short, except the budget. The CGI, is good for the most part, and makes up the entirety of the film. There is some moments that it's unimpressive, mostly those involving the aliens, but it doesn't look too bad.
What does however is the fact that half of the battle scenes we have simply no idea what is going on, it's simply a blur of colourful lights and loud noises that I couldn't make sense of, even worse than Transformers.
This movie is basically a Transformers movie on steroids, in the future with aliens, simply put. The acting is crap, we can't even understand half of what the Chinese women said, and she often gives up and goes back to Chinese.
There's little to no character development. The action is again hard to follow, sometimes it's cool, but it's so over the top and straight up stupid that it falls flat. The only real cool or good moment is the battle at the bottom of the ocean, until the go into the crack/teleporter thing that makes no sense.
There's so many holes is everything, like why they need two people in the first place of their brains compatable, when they break both of those rules eventually and prove they don't matter in the first place.
They forget they have a massive awesome sword, and that causes a number of deaths, using a boat as a bat wouldn't work as it would shatter when it was bashed against something like a baseball bat, either the water is shallow forever or the robots can walk on it, aliens that are built on an assembly line somehow can also get pregnant, it goes on and on.
It's simply not well thought out, makes no sense as is dumb as could have been. The idea secured that anyways, but they didn't really put a huge effect into making it real. It's a mess on the scene, a mess to watch, and messes with my brain.
Will not watch again and wouldn't recommend even for Transformers fans. Had better expectations to be honest.
