Review of Pacific Heights (1990) by Ray D — 21 Feb 2009
I miss Micheal Keaton. In this film, one of the many 'crazy neighbor/deliveryman/boss/employee/etc' thrillers in the early 90's, Keaton is easily the best thing on camera, playing the creepy tenant who rents the basement of a pair of young urban professionals who are working hard to pay off their dream home.
(Melanie Griffith and Matthew Modine, well cast as, errr, kind of boring people). The usual twists and turns ensue, and by the time Keaton gets a restraining order slapped on his landlord to help facilitate his MASTER PLAN, and Melanie Griffith turns into an amateur detective to stop him, the film has gone off the rails somewhat, but it's still goofy fun to watch, and has some effective moments, most courtesy of Keaton, who even kidnaps Mz.
Griffith's white fluffy cat, and keeps it in the basement where she can hear it yowling through the air vents at her. The scoundrel.
