Review of P2 (2007) by Rosemarie S — 15 Jan 2009
Nothing excites me more than underground parking garages, Christmas, and Wes Bentley (sarcasm alert)... but this film manages to meld all three together into one sick twisted joyride. The premise of this movie is the whole "woman in distress being stalked by an obsessed lover", but where this can get old fast (i.
E. rape, attempted murder, forced conversation etc.) we actually get a movie that moves a bit above and beyond all that. If I could describe this movie in the best way possible, it would be like this: remember when Jack (in The Shining) chases after Danny through a hedge maze? Well replace the hedge maze with underground parking, and put HUGE tits on Danny, and there you have P2.
What's great about this film is the writing. It's not lame or boring or too sensitive. And it's definitely not one of those helpless white woman movies written by a white guy. Aja (who has written/diredcted other great horror films such as Hills Have Eyes and High Tension) definitely scores a hat trick with this one.
My only qualm with it would be the fact that the chick only gets a broken fingernail, a dog bite, and probably hypothermia.
