Review of P2 (2007) by Karen W — 21 Jul 2009
While not great, P2 definitely didn't suck.
Why didn't it? Mostly because it abandoned the "helpless female v. crazy unstoppable killer" horror movie trope that's been done to death and went for a relatively tense, tight story about a woman who is in the wrong place and the wrong time with the wrong guy and has to deal with it.
It's not perfect, and it's sometimes hard to hold the plot with only a barebones cast and the exciting set of a parking garage, but if anything that makes me appreciate that I did generally enjoy this film a bit more.
All of this, while hardly glowing praise, puts P2 miles ahead of the current/recent crop of torture porn, gotta have one final scare, nobody wins, nobody gets tired of being the victim and fights crap that's been floating around lately. While not glowingly original, just by breaking that overused mold I have to say it's worth the hour and forty, especially since it's running on Encore and Netflix Insta View at the time this review is written.
