Review of P2 (2007) by Dread I — 13 Mar 2010
When I decided to watch "P2", I didn't think that the movie was going to be quite like this. Sure I knew about how a woman get's stuck in a parking garage, and she has to fight for her life. But what I didn't know was that Wes Bentley was obsessed with her and just wanted to spend christmas with her. Immedietly after learning this, the movie dropped in goodness (Though it wasn't very good to begin with.) To be honest with you, I just plainly hated this film. I thought that it was just stupid from start to finish, and I mean come on, who wouldn't think that this movie sucked?
I kind of just explained the plot, but I guess I can do it again. Rachel Nichols is a working girl, and she's on her way home to spend Christmas eve with her family. Too bad that the parking attendant from the garage is obsessed with her, and won't let her leave. The core of the movie is Nichols running around back and forth, all over the garage, trying to evade Bentley and his dog. This gets boring really fast, so the production team kind of had to get creative with what they were doing...(echem.....filling up an elevator with water.....wow.) In any event, I guess the idea was kind of cool, but the execution was so atrocious, that I can't believe it was actually released into theaters.
One of the most stupid things about this movie was the acting. Rachel Nichols was terrible, she barely showed any emotion when she was supposed to, and I really couldn't think of a worse protagonist. Wes Bentely was just a complete joke from start to finish. I really couldn't take him seriously. When he was yelling at the top of his lungs in anger, I knew that he wasn't serious, and he did too. So when the acting is atrocious, and the concept execution is atrocious, what's left?
Here's what's left. Why the hell is the MUSIC good in this movie? It feels like it's in the wrong film. Suprisingly, the score was just good, I don't know why, and it was kind of funny that THAT"S what was good about it. It did make me feel like they accidently through this score in from a different film. So that kind of pissed me off, but at least it was good to listen to.
So when the music is the only good thing about a "HORROR" film, you know that you have something bad....really. All in all, "P2" was a mess, and just a joke. There was absolutely nothing frightening about it, the jumping moments, simply weren't jumpy, and the belly aching acting, just made me want to turn it off (even though I kept going). A terrible movie, that just shouldn't have been made.
