Review of Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) by Brady B — 21 Jan 2015
Sam Raimi directs this Disney adventure film that is essentially a prequel to the "The Wizard of Oz." It tries but doesn't hit the right amount of wonderment and magic that an OZ movie needs.
..but the biggest issue with this film is probably the casting. Franco isn't awful, but he just doesn't hit all the right notes the character needed. Kunis is probably the worst miscasting this movie has, as she is fine when she is supposed to be nice, but the moment the evil is switched on she is just lame.
The movie looks good, and there are hints of magic that really worked, it just never knocked it out of the park. You could do a lot worse with a family fantasy adventure film, but just pop on the 1939 film.
..it does everything perfect with this world.
