I really wanted to like this film more than I did. Despite vivid cinematography and gorgeous costumes, the pacing is off. The stakes aren't high enough and the timing, directing and editing of the action are lackluster.
The dialogue is flat, and I agree that James Franco was miscast. The CGI China doll was affecting, but overall, it's an uneven film.
