Sam Raimi has a knack for turning potential blockbusters into B-movies. He is a master of horror, but the overly CGI overly corny Oz falls flat. The beginning does a great job of recapturing the innocence and charm of the 1939 classic, with Oz's black-and-white real life mirroring his experiences in Oz.
His companions, a monkey (Zach Braff) and a broken little China Doll girl, are whimsical, cute and fun, however the story veers off into a bad version of Wicked when it focuses on the 3 witches. Mila Kunis gives one of the worst performances of all time in this film, showing she has no idea what its like to express anger or evil, but then she doesn't need to being a beautiful "actress" in hollywood.
Franco is great in channeling Frank Morgan, and the effects are rather nice, but too copious.
