Review of Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) by Gordon S — 28 Sep 2014
I don't think it's bad. OK, there I said it. There are really good effects and also some good acting in there. Anyone complaining about the convoluted plot is forgetting that this is set in OZ for goodness' sake! Where there are lots of colours unlike our world and weird creatures all over the place.
This movie requires the suspension of disbelief. However, bits of it are weird like the China Girl, the monkey man, the instantaneous wisdom of conman James Franco and I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS 3D NONSENSE! If you're movie doesn't need it, DON'T BOTHER! I am sick of movie studios gouging our wallets to see their movies in a format that barely even works! Otherwise, the film is good if you are prepared to embrace this world and watch something amazing without things flying at you like they are supposed to because you are wearing flimsy, plastic glasses.
