Review of Owning Mahowny (2003) by Ton?I H — 30 Aug 2007
Well...I really wanted to like this one. Philip Seymour Hoffman, yes, good, Minnie Driver, sure, John Hurt can't be too bad...but there was just a distinct lack of tension all 'round. It felt like the whole project was hamstrung by the need to stick to the true story, at the expense of drama on the screen.
A bit like David Mamet's House of Games - but without any of the twists which made that the must-see film, for insights into gambling.
The main question raised by the film was this: which is worse, Minnie Driver's wig, her glasses, or her OOTRAGEOUS Canadian accent?
