Review of Overnight (2003) by Ann D — 03 Oct 2010
Extremely disturbing film about a guy who squandered all the things most struggling artists would kill for: a major label record deal (he calls the 250,000 recording budget "chicken feed") and a production deal from Miramax to write and direct a film: the atrocious, Boondock Saints, which was funded by a different company after Miramax dropped out.
Duffy is a pretty terrible person, but he's so sad and pathetic, and such an obvious alcoholic, that his demise offers more winces than Schadenfreude. The film is perhaps most disturbing in its last few minutes, where it shows how even the agents at the seemingly respectable William Morris Agency are duplicitous jackasses.
I also found Duffy's behavior at the BU film school forum to be abhorrent. He tries to humiliate the students asking questions but he only humiliates himself, which pretty much sums up his personality.
