Review of Overnight (1986) by Ville I — 02 Feb 2009
A decent enough doc about how sudden fame totally distorts your perception of things. Troy Duffy gets a dream deal from Miramax and becomes a legend in his own mind, destroying his career and personal relationships in the process. A nice behind-the-scenes film about making a film still suffers from the patchwork material and it's never really clear why Weinstein drops Duffy as he does. What is clear, however, is how Duffy's confidence turns into self-deceit as things start to fall apart.
It still begs for a follow-up, where they talk with Weinstein and try to figure out, WHY he picked the very mediocre Boondock Saints to be The Next Big Thing? Tarantino was on hiatus at the time, though...
