Review of Overheard (2009) by Jeremy W — 06 Nov 2009
Overheard was quite a film that certainly got me back into watching a great HK film. This film builds a solid slow paced tension crime drama that follows around the characters and its subplots to direct you towards the central story. Slowly the film becomes more intriguing to the danger from the business company that our main characters surveillance bringing about the consequences they become entangled with, all leading to a moderate surprising twist of an ending.
What draws out this well written thriller done by the original team of 'Infernal Affairs', was the set up for our conscience stricken cops played by a great trio of a cast. Koo and Wu were great in the roles and Lau Ching-Wan is always top notch to draw the emotion out of a morally guilty cop. Surprising to see how Michael Wong plays as such an over the top character that feels so weird yet enjoyably funny. 'Overheard' was such a suspenseful film to catch from HK this year and it's good to see the drama hasn't been given up on this film industry as of yet. The quality definitely shows with this film.
