Review of Overboard (2018) by Mike M — 04 May 2018
My wife and I saw this movie last night. The theater was packed and everyone had a great time laughing. The movie stayed true to the original; however, I loved the way the Latin culture spiced it up. My wife is from Mexico and she just loved some of the Mexican slang used in the scene where the workers were just sitting around beefing on marriage. I didn't noticeably detect any chemistry between Eugenio and Anna. Anna brought her comedic image portrayed in "MOM". But, Eugenio struggled with the English version of his character. His humor instincts clicked on when he was speaking Spanish.
I don't understand the 32% rating. Maybe the critics got lost in the dialogue and had a problem reading the subtitles. My wife and I would love to see a sequel where the grandfather comes back into their lives. I think a great writing team could elevate Overboard to a dual country experience and make it a gold plated series of movies.
