Though it would've been more convincing had Russell's character played such a deceptive trick with the initial intent of love, it nevertheless found a rebound as the relationship between Russell and Hawn blossomed throughout the story.
But if played my way, there'd be less obstacle and less comedy, and ultimately you have to sacrifice sincerity if you want those two elements to work in place.
