Review of Over the Top (1987) by Jay S — 18 Jan 2008
If you have a pre-determined mindset that all that matters is the arm-wrestling - I suupose thats all you will notice in the movie. If you actualyl take in the dialogue and take the story seriously it rewards you with an emotional feedback.
The father-son relationship is very carefully handled through the film, the boy's character flourishes the futher into the film you go, and if you have an affinity with Sly's style, you will fall in love with it.
Sure its got action scens, but thats not what this film is truely about in its heart - its about a father-son relationship, dealing with loss, and resolution.
