Review of Over the Hedge (2006) by Michael M — 22 Apr 2014
The films cute and unique premise is pulled by some horribly overdone tropes in its plot (newcomer promises to help group, newcomer has ulterior motives, group finds out, etc.). This makes the story exceedingly predictable and takes away any sense of suspense or novelty that it may have had.
As detrimental and irritating as this is, the characters themselves are so good that it doesn't manage to kill the film. We may know exactly what these characters are going to go through five minutes into the movie, but they're such a delightful group of characters we don't mind watching them go through these things.
It also benefits from a great sense of humor and a consistent level of comedy. It's a fun kids movie that adults will at least get a smile out of.
