Cliche all the way. If they really wished to do something original with this, instead of simply repeating the same set of conventions that have existed in Hollywood for the past aeon, they should have removed the pointless love affair with the adorable ms.
Dharker and instead focused on the protagonist's inner development. He can realize that his culture places too much of an emphasis on material possessions and careers without having to fuck a Bollywood stand-in within a romance that is totally illogical and wholly unprofessional.
Only an American audience requires that a film shoehorn what could have been a legitimate point within the context of a trite relationship, in order to convey what really is an immensely complex issue.
It's the same phenomenon which leads Pixar movies like Wall-E to couch blatant references to the disgustingly toxic lifestyle most Americans lead within pretty cgi, while the bulk of the audience shifts their bulk forward to peer at the special effects and past the writing on the wall.
