Review of Outlander (2008) by Vince K — 12 Aug 2009
Totally fucking awesome movie about an alien (Jim Caviezal) who crash lands his SPACESHIP in NORWAY during the IRON AGE and meets real VIKINGS! What could be more awesome than that? Well, it's also a monster movie! Turns out he has a vicious Morween on board, which is a huge gnarly beast that glows and KILLS! The film actually has a modest budget, good special effects, great sets, and some big actors (Jim Hurt and Ron Pearlman also star).
It blew me away! It was great to see how the alien interacted with the vikings. They call him "Outlander" and capture him at first, but after he saves the King (Hurt) they all become bestest friends.
So there's a cool drinking scene in the great Viking hall where they celebrate, and play this awesome game called "shields". My favorite part of the whole movie was when they were dipping pitchers into a gigantic wooden vat of mead! There was so much of it! And it must have been so good! I totally wanted to be at that party! But then the Morween shows up and kills a lot of people, so maybe not.
I spilled my drink all down my side during it, and had to stop the movie and change, but other than, this movie was totally fucking great! I would recommend it to everyone!
