Review of Outlander (2008) by Bob L — 03 Sep 2009
Didn't expect too much of this except a way of killing a few hours. The synopsis sounds laughable- spaceman crashes into fjords of Norway 709 a.d. and brings a monster that sparks off a Viking tribal war.
Actually, this isn't such a bad romp. FX are not too shoddy, acting is passable (thanks mainly to John Hurt and Ron Perlman, who is a tad underused). The eye candy leads (Caviezel, Myles and Huston) are a bit wooden, but they are given mainly action stuff so that can be breezed over! A bit odd that everybodys 'Nordic' accent is either very British or comes out near Irish at times! Shades of Predator and Braveheart run through this, but apart from these gripes it's not bad and you'll find yourself carried along by this wannabe Boewolf prequel.
