Review of Outlander (2008) by Paul W — 11 Sep 2009
Really enjoyable monster movie along the lines of Predator, Beowulf and Brotherhood of the Wolf. Possibly the start of a new franchise as well. Great effects, CGI monster is especially a highlight. Caviezel is good as the action hero who doesn't say a great deal, Sopiha Myles does well in a restricted role (despite not suiting brown hair imo) and John Hurt is great as always.
This movie has all you could ask for in an action movie, bit of story that explains the main characters background in an interesting way that could be expanded if a sequel is made, lots of action, bit of a love triangle and its entertaining.
Small quibbles, Ron Perlman isn't in it enough, only character/performance I didn't like and actually thought was miscast was Jack Huston as Wulfric and didn't by him as a Viking at all, Wulfric didn't get jealous over Kainan's involvement with Freya at all which was strange and at the beginning of the DVD copy I had the transfer looked very grainy, it was like watching a video.
Overall really enjoyed it and was much better than the reviews I've read, recommended.
