Review of Outlander (2008) by Grifty G — 14 Sep 2009
I watched this 50 million dollar almost straight-to-video film because I read it was an "overlooked gem". Well, I have to disagree. It started off interestingly enough. Caviezel is a soldier from another planet who ship crash-lands in 8th century Norway. The crash is due to a stowaway in the form of a Moorwen, a giant predatory lizard. So it would then follow that the dragon legends of olden times derived from this part of history. Not a bad idea. Caviezel then has to rise up with only primitive Viking weapons and help the locals kill the beast before they are all wiped out.
The screenplay then goes on to employ pretty much every cliché in the action adventure book. I mean, there isn't anything you don't see coming from a mile away (provided you've been watching movies for more than a few years).
Holy Crapo, I just realized Ron Perlman was in this. The whole time I thought it was an actor that looked like Ron Perlman. Anyway, only watch if you want something that reminds you of b movies that would play on cable in the 80's a lot.
