Review of Outlander (2008) by Mikael K — 21 May 2010
After teasing the Academy a few times with Oscar-aiming performances Jim Caviezel seems to have given up and started accepting whatever roles he is offered. At least this is how I felt while watching â??Outlander,â?? a textbook example of a B-movie that has nothing going for it. Caviezel acts as animately as a log, and the time travel sci-fi story is too thin and clichéd to offer anything worth interest. Oh, and Mr. Caviezel isn't even the worst case of odd commitment to an awful project: frigging John Hurt is along for the embarrassing ride! Why? Such a waste...
What I found very odd about this one was how poor the special effects were. They were about the only thing this one was relying upon- and there are a lot of them- but they look at least 10 years old and completely clumsy. Which is true about the whole movie of course. I truly wonder what has motivated the making of such completely pointless excercise in mediocrity.
