Review of Outlander (2008) by Martin F — 01 Sep 2010
A cool concept that very quickly turns into another Predator/Alien/Beowulf/etc. Apart from the visual looks, very little added to the classical monster movie concept - which I find extremely boring. It always goes like this:
1) Character comes to foreign place.
2) (Optional) Character finds locals.
3) In the night, someone is killed.
4) People try to find it.
5) They think they found it.
6) They didn't, because someone killed again.
7) They build a trap.
8) Trap fails, all remaining characters without name die.
9) The last few hunt the monster.
10) Monster dies, but comes back (or baby comes back).
11) Someone makes big sacrifice to save someone.
12) Monster finally killed.
13) (Or was it? Make sure open ending in case of box office success, so we can make a sequel).
