Review of Outlander (2008) by Jason K — 14 Jul 2011
Sometimes you watch a film as you just want a piece of popcorn. This is not even popcorn, more like rancid cheese. And saying that I am pretty easy to please in this genre...I mean I liked Beastmaster :).
The problem is that carrying off a 'genre-crime' by mixing aliens and fantasy vikings means you really have to make it work and this definitely does not.
Add a wasted cast, wooden dialogue, a by the numbers plot and it quickly spins south. It is surprisingly slow and really only Caviezel not acting as so much just being charismatic saves a few scenes.
The 'monster' is so boring and the people's reaction to it so inane that you are relieved when they are eaten.
