Review of Outlander (2008) by J K — 13 Apr 2013
Surprisingly good for a straight-to-DVD film. An interesting premise and a good story that holds up. Kind of a cross between Predator and The 13th Warrior. Jim Caviezel is solid as the uber-technology alien character lead thrust into an archaic civilization.
He plays the fish-out-of-water thing well. Great supporting roles out of John Hurt, Ron Perlman and Jack Huston. What I liked about this premise the most is that the time of the vikings was so long ago and the fact that written history was sporadic that far back so who's to say this kind of thing did not happen? Pure speculation and conjecture on my part, but it's still a cool premise.
Might explain how ancient civilizations were able to build pyramids and do all the funky things they did several millenia before modern day technology was invented, especially considering that mathematics and science weren't even an afterthought way back then.
The people of earth were nomads, farmers and essentially prehistoric rednecks yet built the 7 Wonders of the World????? C'mon man, the aliens helped them. What does this have to do with the plot of this movie? Absolfuckinglutely nothing.
LOL.
