Review of Outbreak (1995) by Francisco R — 20 Jan 2013
Just good, Outbreak is not a memorable movie, it's just okay, I was bored sometimes and I was entertained sometimes, I liked it because of the plot and the good acting, the all-star cast was sort of unnecessary cause the movie wasn't that good, but it had the potential to be good, so what leaves me saying that this movie kind of disappointed. Do I recommend it? Yeah, it's an entertaining pandemic thriller with a bit of drama, but Outbreak has its ups and downs, sometimes it's just slow and not interesting at all and sometimes it just gets interesting so fast that it looks like we're falling asleep and than they slap you right on the face, so what makes me say that this movie is half boring and half entertaining. Sow, watch it, but don't let yourself get interested to watch the movie just because of the cast, wich was sort of waste for a sort of average movie, but I still loved the tones of good actors in it, but I'm just saying that they weren't necessary, so many Oscar-winning/nominated actors in a movie that I don't give a higher rate than three stars, I think you should let yourself be interested by the plot, I think it was interesting. Overall, Outbreak is a forgettable movie, but still, a good and entertaining movie, I recommend it. Good movie.
Wolfganf Peterson did a good job with this movie, he didn't do a memorable job but I think this movie had a good directing by him. Dustin Hoffman takes the lead role, he wasn't fantastic but he's an incredible actor and we can see that he's gave an effort to make a good perfomance, I can say that he had a great perfomance here, Dustin is known from my tenth favorite movie, wich is Little Fockers, he is also known from Kramer vs. Kramer, Rain Man, The Graduate, Tootsie and some other movies. Rene Russo was good here, that's all, Rene is known from Ranson, The Thomas Crown Affair, Thor, Lethal Weapon 3 and some other movies. Morgan Freeman was just okay here, I didn't like the role he played that much so it was hard for me to enjoy his perfomance, but he was still good, Morgan is known from Invictus, Evan Almighty, Se7en, Million Dollar Baby, Driving Miss Daisy and some other movies. Kevin Spacey was amazing here, I loved his role and perfomance, he was great, Kevin is known from my favorite movie, wich is Horrible Bosses, he is also known from American Beuty, The Usual Suspects, Beyond the Sea, K-PAX, Se7en and some other movies. Cuba Gooding Jr. was great here, I really liked his character and his perfomance, Cuba is known from Jerry Maguire, As Good as It Gets, Men of Honor and some other movies. Donald Sutherland wa sjust okay here, I didn't like his character that muhc so I also didn't found his perfomance great, he was just okay, Donald is known from my favorite movie, wich is Horrible Bosses, he is also known from The Italian Job, MASH, Pride & Prejudice, Ordinary People and some other movies. Sow, as you can see, this movie has an extraordinary cast, one of the best casts ever in a movie, the perfomances weren't memorable or outstanding, but the cast was, even though it was unnecessary, whoever was in charge of the casting, that person did a terrfic job. Terrific cast.
In 1967, in Zaire, a virus called Motaba that is mortal, starts to infect lots of people. In order of the virus not spread, a bomb is dropped in Zaire where everyone was killed. In 1994, 27 years later, the Motaba virus comesback. A monkey that was able to escape from Zaire spread it to person, and then that person to another person and certainly, millions of people got contained and millions of people died. The Colonel Sam Daniels (Dustin Hoffman) is going to try to stop the virus by doing research and finding the host with the help of his ex-wife Robby Keough (Rene Russo), and he will also have to fight against General Billy Ford (Morgan Freeman) and General Donald McClintock's (Donald Sutherland) with the help of Major Salt (Cuba Gooding Jr.), in order to make them not drop a bomb in Cedar Kreek t stop the virus by killing thousands of people.(What I thought about the plot) I found the plot very interesting, but I think it didn't work that well as it should. Great plot.
Soundtrack, well, I don't remember any theme or something like that, so I can't say anything about the soundtrack. The action was great, they did a great job by joining action to this movie, there were chopper chases, chopper shooting, the action was pretty good in this movie.
Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, don't think I didn't like it, cause I did, and I think a lot wouldn't be a total mistake to say, this movie was really interesting, the acting was superb but there was just something missing cause there were many boring scenes, even the dialogue was great, also, I could have some nice laughs during this movie, but there was just something that it was not right and I'm sad to say that, for two reasons, first of all, cause I think this movie had potential, and second of all, I don't know what was not right here. Overall, Outbreak is a good pandemic thriller with a bit of drama envolved and a good dose of entertaining, I recommend it, it has a terrific cast, a great plot, great action scenes and it provides you a good dose of entertaining, I liked it and I recommend it. Outbreak: 6.5/10. Good.
