Review of Outbreak (1995) by Simon T — 01 Jan 2017
A serious subject is thrown away on an an increasingly preposterous script and hokey direction by Wolfgang Petersen. Hoffman tries his damnedest to turn it into All the President's Men, but it's a losing battle, made even more difficult by the fact that all his co-stars - including the eternally wooden Rene Russo - are at least half a foot taller.
Morgan Freeman does his gravitas number, Donald Sutherland collects a pay cheque as stock baddie, and Kevin Spacey has the campest hair-dye since Lucille Ball.
