Review of Outbreak (1995) by Al P — 26 Feb 2010
Outbreak attempts to pass off as a disaster film, but ends up more of a thrilling drama with hints of Hoffman comedy in between. The film wouldn't be ''as'' effective if it didn't boost an all-star line up including Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman, Donald Sutherland, Kevin Spacey, Cuba Gooding Junior and Patrick Dempsey; with the script at times being unrealistic, inaccurate and too predictable. What captivated me during the film was Hoffman and Sutherland's high flying helicopter battle, and Spacey's infection scene with worked well. Unlike most disaster films, the characters also appear to have some background and depth to them, and not your a typical caricature performances.
Overall the film is enjoyable and for anyone who hasn't seen it, it is worth viewing.
