Review of Out of the Past (1947) by A R — 22 Aug 2007
Personally, I find the filmwork rather flat in places, which should by no means detract from the fantastic story and performances. Tourneur also does a good job of establishing a contrast of tone between the idyllic countryside and the cold, dark city.
While less hyper-stylized than some noir, it's no doubt a compulsory film of the style.
