Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Sean R — 27 Dec 2007
This movie reminded me of "A History of Violence". I know I should be saying this the other way but I saw "History" first. It tells a extremely dense story of a guy being pulled from his everyday life back into his past that he wanted to forget altogether.
Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer are perfect together with the always clever and quick dialogue that only old films have. Kirk Douglas was also very good. he seemed to have an undercurrent of intensity at all times and felt like he could explode at any moment.
This was just going to be a 4.5 but was pushed over the edge when the ending came. I'm surprised they did that back in 40's.
