Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Kevin H — 11 Mar 2008
Absolutely stellar classic noir which excels on every possible front, from moody lighting and cinematography positively dripping fatalism and dread, to an endlessly quotable, darkly comical stylized script, to the impeccable casting.
Robert Mitchum is every inch the iconic noir protagonist, Jane Greer is sultry and seductive, and Kirk Douglas shines as a devious mobster. Few films excel so effortlessly in so many fashions simultaneously, easily cementing its status as a classic.
