A fantastic film. Tourneur uses the space in the frame to continually create tension--two people talk in a cafe while a mysterious third listens in in the background; two lovers meet on a beach near fishing boats and nets, hoping not to get caught; and so on.
The film brims over with back-stabbings and left turns in the plot, but because Tourneur is also patient with his camera and the pacing of his editing, it never feels like too much. This is easily one of the best films I've seen this year.
