Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Ken T — 09 May 2010
Jacques Tourneur, a master of film atmosphere and tone, pairs with Robert Mitchum, who crafts a masterful performance, in one of the finest films of the 1940s - and certainly one of the greatest noirs of all time.
Mitchum plays a man who has tried to put his past behind him, but unfortunately his past comes back to haunt him. His former boss wants him back to do a job after he has double crossed him. All the elements of a film noir are here in this film where sometimes a lie is better than the truth.
An absolute must-see.
