Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Walter C — 28 Nov 2010
One of the most confusing and convuluted film noirs I have ever seen and I have seen a few now. It is so complicated and becomes to the point where it really interferes with the plot. That being said, there are some great parts to this film.
The art direction and set design is outstanding; the acting, particularly Robert Mitchum's, is really good; and the blackmailing of the main character is quite good. For me, the bizarre thing about this film is I started piecing it together in the last three quarters of the film and I realized that it was very strong.
Although I had to use the movie plot from Wikipedia, it was still a really interesting film, but the not best film noir.
