Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Patryk C — 26 Jul 2012
One of the subtlest, and at the same time one of the most thrilling noir movies ever. With its pitch perfect sombre atmosphere, a story that consists of treachery, betrayal, delusions, fatalism, illicit plots and deadly schemes and, of course, murder, Out of the Past may be actually the defining film in the category.
Robert Mitchum does a great job of placing himself in the position of a genuine noir hero, who suddenly finds himself in the middle of an intense intrigue that gradually sees his life spiraling out of control.
The cinematography is haunting, as the performances from all actors are strong.
