Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Mark S — 11 Aug 2012
I know this is lauded as one of the great film noirs, but I can't help but feel that I've seen plenty better. Maybe a second viewing at some point will improve my opinion of it. It certainly has all the hallmarks, with the snappy dialogue and the femme fatale and the private investigator sporting a trench coat, and I liked the concept of the two lead characters being bad despite their best efforts, but I wasn't particularly engaged by either Robert Mitchum or Jane Greer in those two parts.
Kirk Douglas was more interesting in a supporting role but got nowhere near enough screen time.
