Review of Out of the Past (1947) by Mack E — 05 Sep 2007
I stated jokingly after a screening that the movie should be renamed "Deaf Kid" because he's the only character who doesn't totally suck ass. This is an incredibly well-shot noir, full of these crazy gritty backroads and nooks that didn't seem to exist in the 1940s unless you were really looking for them.
The new freedom of the screen was just around the corner, and you can feel it pulsing in every frame. While there are other noirs that I love more, you can't deny the power and influence of this film.
