This is top notch film noir. One of the best entries in the genre. These films involving cool, hard boiled heroes, mischievous damsels and crime lords require interesting characters, believable performance and strong, memorable dialogue.
Out of the Past delivers on all accounts. Robert Mtchum is convincing as the clever and tough, down on his luck former private eye and Jane Greer, as the woman who has come back into his life, is definitely a 'femme fatale.
