Review of Out of the Furnace (2013) by Christopher H — 17 Feb 2014
I really really wanted to like this. It has some of the best actors in it's line up but the script failed to deliver and wasted the talents on offer. I found it extremely slow and boring with nothing to really grip me other than the performances.
This melancholic film left me more depressed than entertained and inspired. I also find it hard to get past massive contrived plot lines (phone scene!) that are unnecessary and poorly executed. If you love character studies then I can see the appeal but I need a little more to leave happy.
Great musical score and the way the atmosphere surrounding the events was built is well done but sorry, that's about it.
