Review of Out of the Furnace (2013) by Jonathan K — 28 Apr 2014
I think the main reason this film got lots of bad reviews was probably because it didn't want to stick to one genre. The first section was a drama film, then it became a revenge film, then a thriller.
And while there's no problem with doing so, it is a bit strange if you give the audience no warning that you're about to do so. The acting in the film was great, direction was good, and I don't really see what was there to be disliked other than the rather odd genre changes.
So if you can accept that it will not be the conventional film you might be looking for, this film is well worth watching.
