Out of the Furnace portrays the dark underbelly of America that America does not want you to know exists. It shows the small rural towns that do not have much of a pulse aside from the one mill or factory that employs the town, and how those that live in these places occupy themselves.
Affleck was great as the afflicted veteran who feels he has nothing to live for, and Harrelson was fantastic as the ruthless underground boxing/drug promoter. Bale was great as the man who does his best to be a honest man, but you believe him when he feels he has to take the law into his own hands.
Out of the Furnace has gritty moments and is fueled by great performances.
