Review of Out of the Furnace (2013) by Francisco P — 27 Dec 2013
Russell Baze (Christian Bale) lives in a depressed town in which he works at a still mill and gets money in a legal way, while his brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) participates in bare knuckle fights to get money. These two characters have the shittiest lives which made me feel sorry for them, mainly because of the performances because this movie shows the best from everyone on the cast. This is probably the best of Christian Bale I've seen, Affleck is very good but Woody Harrelson knocks it out of the park playing the main villain, a scary man who seems the devil himself, this dude was scary as hell. The directing by Scott Cooper was great and the soundtrack was also very good. I think this movie is one of my favorite of the year, it has a good story, fantastic acting and great action. The movie is a bit depressing but it helps with the overall tone of the film. Overall, this is a fantastic movie with one of Bale's and Harrelson's best.
5/5.
