Review of Out of the Furnace (2013) by A. H — 29 Dec 2013
This is an all-star cast and everyone involved played their role amazingly well. Out of the Furnace features Bale and Harrelson playing good and evil. Their very best work yet, in my opinion. Bale makes Russell Baze's character incredibly *and I mean incredibly* likable. From the scene where the deer looks him in the eye and he can't shoot it, to the scene of the car accident, Christian Bale shows us perfectly what a stand-up guy Russ Baze is.
First movie review I've written here so that says something about how much I loved this film. The performances in 12 Years a Slave were wonderful, too, but Out of the Furnace is my favorite movie of '13.
So surprised it didn't stay in the mainstream theaters longer. I only wish my husband had been able to see it with me, but someone had to watch the kids. :) Can't wait to re-watch it with him on DVD.
On a final note, it always amazes me how someone from the U.K.(or outside the U.S.) can nail an American accent so perfectly. Christian Bale is one of those talents.
Bravo to the director/writers and crew too. Really loved it!
