Ordinary story, as seen in many other movies. It is not the script, it´s the acting and the somehow dark and painful atmosphere it brings. The roughness of life in good and bad hearts, the choices, expectations, luck, lack of it.
Christian Bale, once again, showing why he is one of the best.
