Review of Out of the Furnace (2013) by Tariq H — 30 May 2014
Christian Bale delivers as a man who tries to do the best things possible for his remaining family members. He goes through misfortune after misfortune all the while trying to do the right thing. Bale really gets into his character keeping a stoic straight face as nothing seems to go his way despite his good intentions.
He exemplifies the self sacrificing man in an epic way in this film. Even while he upholds such a high moral standard, the greed and violence perpetrated by others highlight it even more. In the end it is about frustration with a system that values money more than it values human beings and their struggles to make ends meet.
