Review of Out of Sight (1998) by Bill K — 28 Jul 2008
Stylish crime drama/romance full of clever pastiche. It gives Clooney's character-- an unrepentant career criminal-- the role of ethical good guy. But the shiny surfaces, polished good looks, and pervading sense of "cool" make this into an easy pill to swallow.
The many cameos and a smooth jazz-funk soundtrack make this into effectively seductive escapist fantasy-- and naturally, because what it's really about is escape, culminating in Samuel Jackson's cameo as the prison-break specialist in the last scene.
