Review of Out of Sight (1998) by Lenny R — 21 Mar 2010
This is the only thing of any worth that Jennifer Lopez has ever done. It came out a split second before she decided to become a pop singer (and thereby destroyed any chance I had of becoming a bona fide fan), so I actually really liked her in this -- and still do.
George is the coolest guy in the world in this movie, and the two of them literally melt the screen (yes, that's right, I said LITERALLY). It is as good as (if not better than) the novel on which it's based -- though I saw the movie first, so my opinion might be skewed.
Soderbergh's style suits it well (it's more restrained than the Oceans, but with a similarly cool tone), and the supporting cast are all spot-on. David Holmes' music is a near-perfect complement to the visuals and dialogue.
This just beats Shaun of the Dead to the title of Best Romantic Comedy Ever Made (though, to be fair, there are fewer zombies for the would-be lovers to contend with).
