Review of Out of Sight (1998) by C0Up — 27 Dec 2011
I saw this when I was in my teens and pretty much in love with Jennifer Lopez (The Back-Up Plan). Now, I will say that she does look phenomenal in the movie - and still, for that matter, but I don't really feel any different about the movie this time around.
I still think George Clooney (The Men Who Stare at Goats) is vastly overrated. I still think that Ving Rhames (Death Race 2) and Steve Zahn (Sunshine Cleaning) are wasted talent - as are Catherine Keener (Where the Wild Things Are) and Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2), for that matter.
And I don't really think Lopez is that fantastic - other than to look at and drool over when she's handling her arsenal...of weapons. The whole movie reeks of - having seen several of his other less than stellar movies of late (see also, 'Traffic', 'The Good German', and 'The Informant!') - what shall henceforth be known as the Steven Soderbergh effect: fairly well made with A-list stars, but boring and pretty predictable.
It's a far cry from his 'Ocean's' days with Clooney, as those are definitely his best movies (if you don't count '12').
