Review of Out of Africa (1985) by Sharon K — 20 Aug 2008
Though devastatingly similar to a 1996 film of the same genre, Out of Africa deals with people's needs of ownership and titles. The film is vexingly non-climatic and about thirty minutes too long. However, the acting is wonderful, especially Robert Redford, who gives a refreshing performance as the free-spirited Denys.
The film investigates the stereotypical need of women to desire marriage from men who cannot see the need for a commitment. These film is sprinkled with great metaphors and symbols, but is simply too hampered by long runtime.
